Water Level of Three Gorges Reservoir Reached 174.16 Meters

On 8:00, October 19th, the water level of Three Gorges Reservoir reached 174.16 meters. The water storage in Three Gorges Reservoir came to the last 1 meter stage. Yangtze River maritime authority published urgent navigation announcement. The announcement recommends 33 safe places which is available when ships in danger and published 10 danger buoys to ensure the safe of navigation during the water storage period.

After the water storage in October 9th, the water level in Three Gorges Dam has totally increased about 22 meters. The sea-route of main stream in Three Gorges Reservoir area became wider, the tributary and streams stretched longer and the navigation situation improved. On the contrary, with the increase of water level, some shallow and reef was submerged. That became new hidden danger which may have an effect on the safe navigation.

In order to make sure the safe of navigation during the water storage period, Yangtze River maritime authority published the navigation announcement in October 18th. This announcement recommends 33 safe places in foreshore which includes Zhu Wangshi, Liu Jiafang and some others, publishes 10 danger objects in the navigation which includes Bai Yangjiao, Xue Huashi and some others, defined 22 aquatoriums in which land slide may happen. This announcement is aimed to remind ships to keep the safe distance from the bank and prohibit ships to anchor nearby.

After 40 days water storage, ships can pass the Three Gorges Reservoir area safely and ordered. Until now, there are no serious marine incident and casualty.

Maritime authority remind: during the ships anchored, one should pay more attention to the water level change and adjust the mooring facilities timely; during the navigation, one should reinforce outlook to dodge the floater, bulge shore and obstructions so as not to affect the navigation safe; one should keep appropriate and safety distance from the bank; if there are something dangerous or in bad condition, one should inform the coastal patrol vessel or nearby maritime authority.
