It is reported that the water level of Three Gorges Reservoir broke through 170 meters on October 10. The 175 meters experimental water storage of Three Gorges Dam entered into the countdown of the last five meters.

We learned that since the start of the 175 meters experimental water storage on September 10, facilities and equipments of Three Gorges Dam operated normally in the latest month. There is no landslide and geological disaster caused by the water impound of Three Gorges Reservoir.

Three Gorges Reservoir experienced the strongest flood (the water flow reached about 47000 cubic meters per second) from upper reaches of Yangtze River in recent years. The flood reached Three Gorges Dam on September 21. The dam managed in controlling the discharge of the flood. It played important role in the flood control.

According to the water storage implementation plan of Three Gorges Dam in 2011, Three Gorges Reservoir will impound its water to 175 meters in the end of October or early November. Three Gorges Dam would start to impound the water at the end of the flood season and it could rise its water level up to 175 meters normally. It would be brought into full play in navigation, electricity generating, drought resisting etc.

The experimental water storage in 2011 is the third experimental water storage of Three Gorges Dam. It firstly achieved the 175-meter water level in October of last year. This year, the water level of Three Gorges Reservoir has reached 170 meters and has entered into the countdown of the last five meters.
