Three Gorges Reservoir will Welcome another 175 Meters Experimental Water Storage

On August 31, 2011, Muyu Island of Zigui County in Hubei Province emerged in the water area in front of Three Gorges Dam at the time of a new round of 175 meters experimental water storage is about to start.

According to the hydrological information provided by Three Gorges Corporation, the water level of the upper reaches of Three Gorges Dam is 149.89 meters and the water level of the lower reaches of Three Gorges Dam is 65.06 meters under the influence of the decrease of water discharge from the upper reaches until 14:00 on August 31. The inflow water of Three Gorges Reservoir is 12200 cubic meters per second while the outflow water is also 12200 cubic meters. The outflow is equivalent to the inflow.

The water level of Three Gorges Reservoir will back to 150 -155 meters from October 10. The water level will be limited at 158 – 162 meters and the water level will rise to 175 meters at the end of October. The water level of Three Gorges Reservoir will be raised to the scheduled level after the Flood Prevention Command's approval of adjusting the storage schedule according to the decrease of water from the upper reaches.
