The construction of Three Gorges Dam attracted an increasing number of visitors to take a Yangtze Cruise to enjoy the particular natural landscapes of Three Gorges. The dam also formed a large-scale fresh water reservoir which brings a lot of benefits for the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River.

With the steady progress of the 175 meters experimental water storage of Three Gorges Reservoir in 2011, the water level has broke through 171 meters on July 14. So far, Three Gorges Reservoir is the biggest fresh water reservoir in China.

With the rising of the water level of Three Gorges Reservoir, the narrow water course with submerged reefs turned to a grand lake arises among high gorges. The navigation condition from Yichang of Hubei Province to Chongqing was greatly improved.

The construction of Three Gorges Dam and its 175 metes water storage made Yangtze River a golden water course and greatly promoted the social and economic development of Yangtze River Basin. Three Gorges Reservoir is the biggest strategic fresh water reservoir in China.

Its maximum storage capacity reaches 39.3 billion cubic meters. Three Gorges Reservoir also relieves the droughts at middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. It also created beneficial conditions for the improvement of the ecological environment and provide guarantee for the water supply of the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River.
