Thousands-year Tomb Emerged after Water Level of Three Gorges Reservoir Declined

Recently, a tomb of Western Han Dynasty in Zigui County of Hubei Province was discovered after the decline of water level of Three Gorges Reservoir Area. A lot of cultural relics (such as potteries and tripods) were unearthed. The local cultural relic department has paid highly attention to the thousand-year ancient tomb.

The thousands-year ancient tomb is located at Xiangxi Village of Guizhou County. The discoverer and local villager – Hu Changjun introduced that he found something special in the soil while he was smoothing the road after the decline of water level. He dug out that special thing and found that was a tripod. Then he stopped his work and reported the case to relevant department.

Cultural Relics Bureau of Zigui County appointed experts to the site as soon as they received the report. The tomb was said to be the relic of Western Han Dynasty after experts' initial identification. It could be dated back to more than 2000 years ago. The unearthed potteries and tripods are of great archaeology value. The local relevant department will further excavate the tomb.

Ancient tombs located in this place and there might be several unearthed tombs according to an official of Cultural Relics Bureau of Zigui County. The local cultural relic department will organize a group of people to carry out the archeological excavation. More valuable cultural relics might be unearthed in the near future.
