Dual Navigation will Be Carried Out on Three Gorges Dam – Gezhou Dam Water Area

We learned from Three Gorges Navigation Bureau that the "non-flood season" dual navigation will be carried out again on Three Gorges Dam to Gezhou Dam water area from 18:00 on September 30.

This is the third dual navigation carried out from "flood season" navigation to "non-flood season" navigation after the implementation of the Regulation of Navigation on Three Gorges Dam to Gezhou Dam Water Area. According to the regulation, the flood season is from 18:00 on June 1 to 18:00 on September 30 each year. The navigation rout was settled follows the rule of "the upstream ships should navigate on one side of the channel or the tranquil flow and the downstream ships should navigate on middle of the channel or the mainstream". From 18:00 on September 30 to 18:00 on June 1 of the next year, the ships should navigate keep to the right of the channel.

So far, the inflow of Three Gorges Reservoir keeps 10000 cubic meters per second. Because of the autumn flood season, the outflow of Three Gorges Reservoir reaches 9710 cubic meters per second, and that is 1500 cubic meters per second more compared to the outflow of the same period of last two years. There is no much difference between this year's navigation environment and last year's navigation environment since the water level between Three Gorges Dam and Gezhou Dam keeps at about 65 meters.

To ensure safe navigation on Three Gorges Dam to Gezhou Dam water area during the transition period of the navigation channel, Three Gorges Marine Safety Administration took many effective measures to keep the navigation water in advance. It attaches great importance to the supervision and regulation of the vessels and release relevant information in time to provide security tips for the vessels.

Three Gorges Marine Safety Administration said that the vessels should obey their command during the transition period of the navigation channel and slow down their speed on the water area between Three Gorges Dam to Gezhou Dam so as to ensure the navigation safety.
