4.3 Billion Cubic Meters of Water Blocked by Three Gorges Dam
The water level of the Three Gorges Dam (which is located at the interface of middle and upper reaches of Yangtze River) kept rising for the last few days. The highest level reached 148.5 meters on July 11. The Three Gorges Dam implemented 2 flood preventions and has blocked about 4.3 billion cubic meters of water according to the data.
The reporter learned from the Cascade Scheduling and Communication Center of the Three Gorges Dam that the flood crests which reached 36,000 cubic meters per second arrived at the Three Gorges Dam on July 9. The Three Gorges Dam played the role of weakening the flood crests. It discharged 28,000 cubic meters per second at its highest, and it discharged 8,000 cubic meters per second averagely. The Three Gorges Dam's water level reached 148.5 meters at its highest at 4:00, July 11 and that raised 3.5 meters compared with its lowest water level. It blocked about 1.8 billion cubic meters of water.
Previously, the water flow of the Upper Reaches of Yangtze River decreased to less than 20,000 cubic meters per second. Three Gorges Dam discharged the flood by 26,000 cubic meters per second. Before and after the flood, the water level of the Three Gorges Dam reached 149.8 meters at its highest, and that raised nearly 5 meters compared with its lowest water level. It blocked 2.5 billion cubic meters of water. The 2 flood preventions totally blocked about 4.3 billion cubic meters of water.
