Yangtze River Weather - Temperature

The Yangtze River weather is affected by many factors, like temperature, precipitation, evaporation, drought index, humid index and so on. Among these factors, the temperature is a must mentioned factor.

Yangtze River Weather – Distribution Features

The temperature in Yangtze River area is formed by the mutual function of sun radiation, East Asia atmospheric circulation, the terrain of Qinhai-Tibet Plateau and North Pacific and the different terrain condition in different areas.

The distribution trend of annual average temperature in the Yangtze River area is that the east is high while west is low, the south is high, while north is low, the temperature in middle and down reaches is higher than upper reaches, the temperature in south bank is higher than north bank, and temperature in river source area is the lowest in the whole Yangtze River area. As the difference of terrain in different districts, under the overall distribution, there formed Sichuan Basin, Yunnan-Kweichow Plateau, Jinsha River Valley and other closed high/low temperature center zone.

Yangtze River Weather – Temperature Distribution

The annual average temperature in most areas of Yangtze River middle and down reaches is between 16℃ -18℃. The temperature at south of Hunan, Kweichow to north of Nanling is over 18℃, which is the place with highest annual average temperature in the Yangtze River Basin; the temperature in Yangtze River Delta and middle and down reaches of the Han River is about 16℃; the temperature in upper reaches of the Han River is 14℃; the Sichuan Basin is a closed high temperature center, and the temperature in this area is between 16℃ and 18℃; the temperature in this area between Chongqing and Wanxian County is over 18℃; in Yunnan-Kweichow Plateau, the temperature in western high temperature center is about 20℃, while in east low temperature center is below 12℃, so the disparity of temperature is very large; the high temperature center of Jinsha River Valley is near Batang, where the annual temperature is 12℃, and the low temperature center is between Maotang and Daocheng, where the average temperature is just 4℃; the temperature in river source areas is very low, annual average temperature is 4℃ below zero, and the distribution trend is north low and south high.

In the Yangtze River Basin, the hottest month is July, coldest month is January. The April and October are months of temperature changing.
