Xiangxi Stream Scenic Spot

Xiangxi Stream is also named Zhaojun Stream. It is named Xiangkou Stream in Shui Jing Zhu (Commentary on the Waterways Classic) and Xianqian River in History of Qing Dynasty. It is located on the north bank of Yangtze River in Xiling Gorge, 572 kilometers away from Chongqing urban district. According to legends, the Baoping Village which is located on the upstream of Xiangxi Stream is the hometown of Wang Zhaojun who was the princess of Emperor Yuan in Han Dynasty; hence Baoping Village also named Princess Ming Village. Xiangxi Stream is a very beautiful stream, which originates from Shenningjia, and flows into Yangtze River from Northern.

Xiangxi Stream Scenic Spot – Brief Introduction

Among the first class anabranches of Yangtze River, Xiangxi Stream is very small for its length and drainage area. Its water amount and potential water power resource is lesser than many big anabranches. But, as for Qu Yuan (who was great patriotic poet of Chu Kingdom) and Wang Zhaojun (who is a famous beauty who married to the chief of Hun in Han Dynasty) were born in this area, there is more famous than some big anabranches areas.

Xiangxi Stream Scenic Spot – Origin

Xiangxi Stream was named Xianqian River in ancient, which originate from Shennongjia in Hubei Province, and passing by Xingshan County and Zigui County. According to legends, the Baoping Village, which located on the suburb of Xingshan County, is the hometown of Wang Zhaojun. Walking along the Xiangxi Town road toward northern, you will reach the Jiajiadian, cross the Xiangxi Stream, and then through the Seven Miles Gorge, you can arrive at Lepingli in Zigui County. Base on legend, there is the hometown of Qu Yuan.

Xiangxi Stream Scenic Spot - Drainage Area

The drainage area of Xiangxi Stream is 3099 square kilometers, almost in high mountains or half –height mountain areas. The terrain in upstream is high and steep, the altitude is over 2500 meters, and some parts even reached 3000 meters. When the river flows through the gorge, as for the slope is very steep, so water flows quickly. There are Gufu River and Liangping River two anabranches on the upside of Xingshan Town. On the downside of Xingshan Town, there is mesa on the right river bank, the terrain is becoming plainer, and the river gorge becomes more wid. The mountain terrain on the both banks is eastern high, while west low, and the height gap is about 500 meters. There is Gaolan River flows into the big gorge on the downstream left bank.
