Tian'ran Tower
Tian'ran Tower is situated at the north shore of the Yangtze River, Yichang City, it is the only well-preserved Qing Dynasty building in the downtown of Yichang. In 1962, Tian'ran Tower became a municipal heritage conservation unit. In 1992, it became the provincial heritage conservation unit of Hubei province.
It is said that Tian'ran Tower was first built by a famous literator Guo Pu in Jin Dyansty while he moved into Yiling (Now,Yichang) in Jin Dynasty. Until the Chong Zhen Period of Ming Dynasty, the Grand Secretary Wen Anzhi removed the tower, he want to rebuild it but not as willing until 55 years of Qianlong Emperor, Qing Dynasty (1790), the country flourishes and the people live in peace. The tower is 43.35 meters high, constructed by bricks, seven layers. At the foot of the tower decorated with ruyi. A ladder was built in the tower, thus the people can in and out freely. The area of each layer gradually decrease from the bottom to the top. The chambers of the tower are all octagonal and well lighted. The base of the tower is octagonal, guarded by the eight big King Kong. On the gate of the tower carved three letters "Tian'ran Tower", the frame is decorated with two dragons and cloud pattern.
