Three Gorges Dam History Ⅰ

From the decision about Three Gorges Dam construction was passed through in the fifth meeting of the Seventh National People's Congress in April 3rd, 1992, Three Gorges Dam Project experienced ten years construction process, and the ideal that a smooth lake rises in the narrow gorges is coming true.

Three Gorges Dam History – Important Decision and Establish Organization

After the decision was passed through in National People's Congress, State Department set up State Department Three Gorges Project Construction Committee in Jan. 3rd, 1993 to ensure the Three Gorges Project can be carried out smoothly. This committee is the highest decision making department which lead the Three Gorges Dam construction directly. In Sep.27th 1993, National State approved to set up China Yangtze Three Gorges Project Development Company to be responsible for construction and management of Three Gorges project.

Three Gorges Dam History – Construction

In May 25th, 1995, Yangtze River Commission put forward the preliminary design of Three Gorges Project, it was passed through, and then they work on the techniques. The foundation ditch of Three Gorges Project right bank first stage concrete coffer dam was dug and started to work on Zhongbaodao in July 1st, 1994. Thence Zhongbaodao disappeared on the map. The right bank first stage construction was carried out completely. In Jan.15th, 1994, the three giant buildings of Three Gorges first stage project, that is permanent ship lock, temporary ship lock and ship elevator, left bank dam and power plant first stage project started to bid. The construction organizations which bid the project began to work on the left bank first stage construction. There formed the scene that both banks were under construction. At the same time, the other preparation works in the dam areas were carried out completely.

Three Gorges Dam History - Land Requisition and Resettlement

In May, 1993, the first immigration village of Three Gorges Project – Zhongbaodao New Residential Area started construction. During this time, there migrated 12,000 people away from the dam area. In the end of November of 1993, the site of Three Gorges Dam – Zhongbaodao historical relics rescue works were done. It was approved by National State that the largest important immigration project – the natural chlor-alkali project in east Sichuan would start in December 28th, 1994.

Three Gorges Dam History – Construction Started

After two years hard work, until the end of 1994, the infrastructure in Three Gorges Dam area has in primary scale, the projects on left and right banks have started completely. The preparation works of Three Gorge Project was successfully completed, which laid a solid foundation for the construction of Three Gorges Project. In December 14th, 1994, Premier Li Peng announced to the world that "The great Three Gorges Project start now" in Three Gorges Dam area.
