Zhang Fei Temple, also named Zhang Huanhou Temple, has been listed as important cultural relic sites under state-level protection by the Central Government. It is located on the Feifeng (Fly Phoenix) Mountain which is on the south bank of Yangtze River in Yunyang County of Chongqing. It was built by local people to commemorate the great general of Shu Kingdom in Three Kingdom Period, Zhang Fei. It is said that Zhang Fei Temple was first built in Three Kingdom period, and repaired in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. So Zhang Fei Temple inosculated the building marrow of every dynasty. After the Three Gorges Dam Project completed, the place where Zhang Fei Temple located was submerged. In order to protect the important human landscape, the government spent 40 million RMB to remove the whole ancient buildings to the upstream of Yangtze River, about 32 kilometers away from the original temple. There are three special features about the new Zhang Fei Temple.

Zhang Fei Temple is a suit of perfect ancient buildings. This Temple which has over 1700 years took the advantage of steep terrain in Three Gorges. It was built on the rock, beside the mountain and toward the river. The present Zhanggfei Temple was reserved by the repair in every dynasty and it inosculated the building marrow of every dynasty. The visitors came here can enjoy the building style and art of every dynasty. Brother Pavilion, The Main Hall and other ancient buildings was collected here, formed a perfect tridimensional landscape painting. Zhang Fei Temple also gets the good reputation of "Wonderful Scenery of Bashu".

There are large numbers of calligraphy treasures exhibited in Zhang Fei Temple. From Han and Tang Dynasties to Ming and Qing Dynasties, numerous celebrities and poems came here and left some precious works. There are more than 800 steles, couplets, calligraphies and paintings in the temple. They are in different genre and style. The temple not only collects the works of Yan Zhenqing, Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, but also the Petition on Taking the Field which was written by Yue Fei, the paintings of Zheng Banqiao. All of this make Zhang Fei Temple become bookishness and get the "famous scenic spots of literature" status.

Zhang Fei Temple was built by the local people to commemorate the great general of Shu Kingdom in Three Kingdom Period, Zhang Fei. The statues in the temple reappeared Zhang Fei's saga. Visitors came here, not only can figure down Zhang Fei's frank and straightforward character from narrator's introduction, but also can review the long history of Three Kingdom's culture. There is a museum, covered more than 2000 square meters, used to exhibit the underground cultural relics which are found in Yunyang County.
