Tanzhang Gorge

Chongqing Wanzhou District located at the center of Three Gorges Reservoir Area. Its various scenic spots add more attraction to Yangtze Cruise.

Tanzhang Gorge – Brief Introduction

Tanzhang Gorge is located in southeastern Wanzhou District. It is a scenic spot formed by limestone which covers an area of 69 square kilometers. The forest coverage reaches 64.7 percent. It is 70 kilometers away from Wanzhou city and opened to public in 2001.

The main gorge of Tanzhang Gorge is 21 kilometers long and was made up of General Gorge, Heavenly Gorge, Peach Orchard Gorge, Earth Crack Gorge and Conch Gorge. It has 24 branch gorges about 70 kilometers long. It is 100 meters at its widest and only 1.5 meters at its narrowest. There are steep cliffs on both banks of the gorge and it is about 300 meters at its highest.

Tanzhang Gorge – Landscape and Attractions

There are many romantic and diversified natural attractions at Tanzhang Gorge. The steep mountains and cliffs standing on both banks of the gorge are covered by dense forest. It is also characterized by grotesque rocks. The landscape here is as beautiful as Lesser Three Gorges and as miraculous as Heavenly Pit and Earth Crack. The water in Tanzhang Gorge is pretty clean and pollution-free. There are many lakes in the gorge and each gorge is a natural swimming pool. Visitors here could swim or boat in the lakes.

Plank road and ropeway are built in Tanzhang Gorge after it was opened to visitors. Visitors there could take part in the bonfire party and experience the traditional folk custom of Miao people and Tujia people. Visitors could also appreciate the beautiful snow landscape.
