Shore Excursion of Yangtze Victoria Cruise from Chongqing to Shanghai – Wuhan

Wuhan is the largest city in central China and the capital of Hubei Province. Wuhan is composed of three separate cities: Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang. Wuhan was first settled in the first century during the Three Kingdom period as a part of the Wu Kingdom. By the Yuan Dynasty, Wuhan was the capital of the region and was enclosed by a city wall until the end of the 19th century. Wuhan has played an important role in modern Chinese history. In the late 19th century, a farsighted official of the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Zhidong, established factories and an arsenal in Hanyang to begin the industrializing movement of China. The 1911 revolution was first started here and caused the downfall of the last imperial dynasty in China. The first major industrial strike in Chinese history, the "February 7" railroad strike took place here in 1923. After the fall of Nanjing in 1973 during the Anti-Japanese War, the nationalist government made Wuhan its capital for a year before moving to Chongqing. Tourist attractions include the Yellow Crane Tower, Yangtze River Bridge, and East Lake. On downstream cruises, the Yangtze Victoria Cruises tour the Hubei Provincial Museum, which houses artifacts from the first century BC, as well as mementos of the province's revolutionary history. On upstream cruises, visit Guqin Terrance, which commemorates an ancient legend of the friendship between Yu Boya, a famous official and musician, and Zhong Ziqi, a woodcutter.

Huangshan is one of China's most famous mountain ranges, also a heritage Site. Located in Anhui Province, Huangshan has greatly influenced traditional Chinese landscape painting. It has attracted many scholars and historical figures as the scenery here inspired many great painters in history. Pine trees are one of the "Four Splendors" of Huangshan. Almost every rock has a pine tree growing out of its crevice. Another splendor of the mountain is the strange rock formations. These rocks have inspiring names such as Monkey Gazing at the Sea, Squirrel Leaping Up to the Peak and the Rock of Flower From Afar. Huangshan's "Sea of Clouds" provides a splendid view. Huangshan is enveloped by fog and clouds most of the year. Looking above, the clouds drifting around the mountain resemble a still sea which rolls and tosses, showing and hiding the beautiful peaks now and then.

Nanjing is located on the Southern bank of the Yangtze River, and the capital of Jiangsu Province. The history of Nanjing is both long and colorful – from the Kingdoms of Wu, Yue, and Chu, which prospered here seven centuries before the birth of Christ, to the nascent stirrings of 1851's Taipei Rebellion. Eight dynasties established their capitals in the city between the third and fourteenth centuries. In 1912, Dr. Sun Yat-sen declared Nanjing the capital of the new Nationalist Republic of China.
