Introduction of Shimen Cave

Shimen Cave also known as Dragon King Cave is located in Kuangfu mountain, 25 kilometers southwest of Yichang County. It was named after the two stone gates in front of the cave. In the cave there is a 14 square meters pool, clear as a mirror, warm in winter and cool in summer. Within the scenic area covered with luxuriant, idyllic scenery all year round. On the rock there is a huge cave with plunging waterfall. The cave has a group of temples inside, behind the temples there is a deep pool. It is said that once there was a heavy drought, the local residents used the water in the pool to pray for the rain and it is very effective, so, the cave also called Dragon King Cave.

History and Scenic Spot of Shimen Cave

According to the history, the famous Taoism leader Zhang Sanfeng has been practiced Taoism here. The stone statue of Zhang Sanfeng still kept in the cave. August 9th to August 15th in Chinese Lunar Calender every year, the devotees to the Buddha who come from all directions gathering here.

On the cave wall grows of grotesque stalactites, look like eagle, turtle and cattle. The most particular one is Yin and Yang Rock. The rock is located in the center of the plagioclase, one on the right, one on the left. At the lower part and the crack of the Yang Rock covered with moss, dripping water all year round, it is known as a wonder of the cave.
