Shennong Peak Scenic Spot

Shennong Peak Scenic Spot is situated at  the southwestern part of Shennongjia. It covers an area of 883.6 square kilometers. It is one of the most important scenic spots of Shennongjia and also a national AAAA-class scenic spot. It is  noted for its well-preserved forest ecosystem which is characterized by biodiversity. It  presents the theme of the harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature.

Shennong Peak Scenic Spot keeps a perfect subtropical forest ecosystem, and hasrich animal and plant resources. There are 2419 species of vascular plants, in which there are 34 species under the state key protection. There are 336 species of vertebrate animals, in which there are 75 species of beasts, 308 species of birds, 23 species of amphibians, 40 species of reptiles, 47 species of fishes and about 600 species of insects. There are 67 species of national key protective animals. The biodiversity of Shennong Peak Scenic spot is of global significance and the complete forest ecosystem is of important realistic significance to the ecological balance of the Middle and Lower Reaches of Yangtze River and the Central China Area. Shennong Peak Scenic Spot has become a natural protective screen of the Central China Area, and was praised as the "Green Treasure Reserve", "Gene Reserve of the Plants", "Natural Zoo", "Shelter for the Endangered Species of Animals and Plants" and so on. Shennong Peak scenic spot is called The Highest Peak in Central China which is 3105.4 meters above the sea level.

Because of the unique geographical position, complex and varied climate types, and mysterious legends, Shennong Peak Scenic Spot has become the most attractive and most typical natural scenic spot in China. It is praised as an "Irreplaceable World-class Tourist Resource" by the experts.
