Rescue Record of Yangtze River Dolphin

In 1978, Research Team for Yangtze River dolphin belong to Institute of Hydrobiology of Chinese Academy of Science was established. The scientific research of Yangtze River dolphin was formally started. Yangtze River dolphin was listed as an endangered animal under state key protection.

In 1980, Hubei Provincial Government published Notice on Protection of the Precious Yangtze River Dolphin.

In 1986, the International Symposium on Protection of River Dolphins was held in Wuhan. Yangtze River dolphin won great attention from the scientists at home and abroad. Chen Muhua – president of Bank of China donated 500000 dollars for Yangtze River dolphin.

In 1992, the building of two natural reserves and five protection stations for Yangtze River dolphin were approved by Ministry of Agriculture.

In 1993, International Conference on Protection of Yangtze River Dolphin was held in Nanjing.

In 1996, an urgent meeting on the protection of Yangtze River sturgeon was held to discuss protecting methods of Yangtze River dolphin in February. Wuhan Yangtze River Protection Foundation was formally established on December 25.

In 1997, Treasure of Yangtze River – Yangtze River Dolphin Exhibition was held in Beijing Museum of Natural History in August.

In 2000, Popular Science Exhibition on Yangtze River Dolphin was held in Wuhan.

In 2002, Tao Xingshi – committeeman of CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) reported the Proposal of Intensify the Protection of Yangtze River Dolphin on the Political Consultative Conference in March.

In 2006, scientists found no Yangtze River dolphin in the careful investigation of sturgeons in Yangtze River.

In 2007, Yangtze River dolphin was formally declared as an extinct animal.
