Brief Introduction of Qutang Gorge

Qutang Gorge started from White Emperor City in West side to Daxi Town, Wushan County in east, lasted 8 kilometers. It also named Kwei Gorge. Both banks of Qutang Gorge are high precipices which are clad in white, adorn in red, very clearly. Qutang Gorge is famous in the world for its magnificence, vagary and ruggedness.

Although Qutang Gorge only 8 kilometers long, it is the most breathtaking gorge. The high precipices on the both bank like been cut by knife, surging river flowing among the precipices. So, Qutang Gorge get the reputation of "the most steep place is Jiange, the most magnificent place is Kwei Gorge". Qutang Gorge is the shortest one among Three Gorges. From Daxi, Wushan County to White Emperor, Fengjie County, it lasted 8 kilometers. It is the shortest, narrowest, and grandest in momentum and landscape among the Three Gorges

Scenic Spots of Qutang Gorge

Although Qutang Gorge is short, there are many sight spots in it.

Qutang Gorge is the shortest one in Yangtze River, lasted only 8 kilometers. The east part originated from Daxi, Wushan County, west part ended in White Emperor City, Fengjie County. Qutang Gorge is famous for its magnificence and ruggedness. The magnificent showed in mountain shape. When you stay in the gorge, you can see the perilous peak on the both bank hanging down, and the bottom part like been cut by ax and knife. The mountains stand up on the land, penetrate into sky. The main mountain in the gorge can reach 1500 meters high. The river course in Qutang Gorge is very narrow, only about hundred meters wide and the narrowest part only tens meters wide. That makes the precipices on the both bank become closer and increases the grand momentum. Both bank of Qutang Gorge look like doors which will close, but don't; so it gets the reputation of "impregnable pass in the world". The magnificence of Qutang Gorge also showed in water potential. In the narrow river course, you can see the scene of surging river beating the bank in flood period.

Features of Qutang Gorge

There are two highlands on the banks of Kweimen, the south one is Baiyan (White Salt) Mountain, the north one is Chijia Mountain. These two mountains face each other across the river and highly penetrate into sky, just like gate made by God. The cliffs are in 500 meters high and the water course only hundred wide, but flow rate reached 50000 cubic meters per second.

Humanity landscape of Qutang gorge

On Baiyan (White Salt) Mountain in Yangtze River, there is a crag different from others in color. It is pink, called Pink Crag. On Pink Crag, there are many famous Qutang Gorge cliff inscriptions. Among these inscriptions, the most famous two, or in largest volume are the inscriptions written by general Sun Yuanliang and patriot general Feng Yuxiang.
