Qingjiang River Art Gallery Scenic Area – Brief Introduction

Qingjiang River Art Gallery Scenic Area is located in Changyang Tujia Autonomous County of Yichang. It includes all the scenic spots between Geheyan Dam and Yanchi Spring along Qingjiang River. It is a provincial scenic area and holiday resort of Hubei Province. It is also a national forest park approved by National Forestry Bureau and one of the Four A-class Scenic Areas named by Tourism Bureau of Hubei Province.

Qingjiang River originates from Longdonggou of Lichuan City in western Hubei Province. It flows through Enshi County, Changyang County, Badong County and pours into Yangtze River at Yidu. It stretches 423 kilometers. There is an old saying goes that the 800-li (Li is a unit of length equal to 0.5 kilometers) Qingjiang River is as beautiful as a painting. The Qingjiang River in Changyang County is about 148 kilometers long. Geheyan Dam, constructed in 1994 is 11 kilometers away from the county seat. The dam is 165 meters long and 150 meters high. It could prevent flood, store water and generate electric energy.

"800-li Qingjiang River is as beautiful as a painting and the 300-li Qingjiang River in Changyang County is an art gallery." Qingjiang River was praised as a lyric poetry, a graceful song and a charming painting. There are peaks covered with dense forests on both banks in the 300-li Qingjiang River Art Gallery Scenic Area. Visitors say that Qingjiang River Art Gallery is as magnificent as Three Gorges, as clean as Lijiang River in Guilin City and as beautiful as West Lake in Hangzhou City. Qingjiang River was also praised as Oriental Danube.

Qingjiang River Art Gallery Scenic Area – Attractions

Visitors could tour Baidao Lake (Hundred of Islands Lake) by ship from Geheyan Dam. Baidao Lake is located at the upper reaches of Geheyan Reservoir. There were some towering mountains standing on both banks of the river. After the construction of Geheyan Dam, the water level raised dozens of meters and the mountains become islands in the river. Hence it was named Baidao Lake. Visitors could tour Daoying Gorge (Reflection Gorge), Baiyu Lake (White Jade Lake), Baiyuan Lake, Wuluozhongli Mountain, Tianzhu Mountain and Ba People Cave.
