There is a closed-fishing season on Yangtze River for about 3 months since 2003 every year. Experts think that the regulation should be more powerful. They appeal on ban on fishing all year around in the future 10 years.

There are enough terms for ban on fishing all year around. The government should put forward policies to keep the fishermen away from Yangtze River and protect the fish resources and biological diversity of Yangtze River. It is reported that the number of people who make a living with fishing is decreasing rapidly. The small number of fishermen could change to other fields with the support of government.

Wang Ding – researcher of Chinese Academy of Science said that we have only 15 years to rescue Yangtze River finless porpoise. We shouldn't make Yangtze River finless porpoise another tragedy after the extinction of Yangtze River dolphin.

Protective Measures for Yangtze River Finless Porpoise – Soft Release

Soft release means train the captive raised wild species to adapt to the wild environment gradually and finally back to the nature. Recently, the soft release of Yangtze River finless porpoise was carried out at Tianezhou Reserve. Two Yangtze River finless porpoises were released to the natural purse seine from the aquaculture net cage. The release was aimed at recovering of Yangtze River finless porpoises' wild nature gradually and finally back to the nature.

The researchers put alive fishes into the purse seine to train the hunting skills of Yangtze River finless porpoise. The two Yangtze River finless porpoises will stay in the purse seine for several months and then be released to Yangtze River. Soft release is an important step for the captive raised finless porpoises' back to nature. The success of the soft release will act as guidance for the protection of Yangtze River finless porpoise.

Protective Measures for Yangtze River Finless Porpoise – Artificial Breed

Artificial breed is an assistant and remedial measure for the protection of Yangtze River finless porpoise. But the protection of Yangtze River finless porpoise couldn't expect on the artificial breed completely since the artificial raised Yangtze River finless porpoise couldn't adapt to the natural environment. It is proved that Yangtze River finless porpoises could reproduce well in a good living space with enough food sources and without interference.

The number of Yangtze River finless porpoise needs to keep more than 100 to maintain a long-term natural reproduction according to Wang Ding. The reserve must ban on fishing completely to ensure the food resource of Yangtze River finless porpoise.
