Longmen Gorge Travel Guide – Main Sight Spots

Longmen Gorge main area stretches 3 kilometers. In the gorges, there are the starting point of ancient plank road relic, Longmen Bridge, Longmen Spring, the Lion Guard the Gate, Nine Dragons Pole, Lingzhi (Glossy Ganoderma) Peak and other sight spots. When you go out of the gorge, there is the Yinwo(Silver Nest)Shoal. When you pass by there by boat, you will feel that "The Ba River water is flowing as fast as arrow, while the boat is as fast as it is flying". The stretching part of this gorge is a part of wide gorge area with water flowing slowly, then come into Pipazhou and turns into Mojiao Shoal.

Longmen Gorge Travel Guide – Ancient Plank Road Starting Point

Taking boat for three or four kilometers will come into Longmen Gorge. At the gorge entrance, there are two peaks facing each other and a cross over two peaks Longmen Bridge which is 184 meters long, make the gorge entrance look like the "dragon gate". There is more steep and beautiful than Kweimen. After coming into the gorge, you can see there are some square stone holes on the both banks Cliffside. The stone holes are about 6 inches wide, and the distance between two holes is about 1.5 meters. There is the starting point of the earliest ancient plank road in China, which is about 300 kilometers long.

Longmen Gorge Travel Guide – Gorge Entrance

There is a lion shape peak near to the gorge entrance, facing to the "Dragon Gate" – which is named "Lion Guard the Gate" .There is a limpid spring on the east bank, with the spring water flow out from the cliff cracks – which is "Longmen Spring". When you visit the gorge, you will find there is a stone pole on the east bank cliff, which is 40 meters high. The natural designs on the pole look like dragon twisting on it – which is named Nine Dragon Pole. There is a queer stone next to Nine Dragon Pole which is looks like glossy ganoderma, hence named this stone as "Lingzhi (glossy ganoderma) Peak.

Longmen Gorge Travel Guide – Yinwo Shoal

When the boat comes out of the gorge, there is a dangerous shoal – Yinwo Shoal. In the shoal, the water level range is about 8 meters. It is very hard for boat to go toward the pouring down river water. At that time, the boatman will ask visitors to get off the boat and walk to the upstream; while the boatman will tow the boat to upstream. In the past, there are many goods ships turned over at here, then numberless treasures fallen into the river, hence named it "Yinwo (Silver Nest) Shoal.

Passing by the gorge by boat, visitors can enjoy the towering high mountains, queer stones and pouring down springs on boat, and sometimes visitors can see there are some monkeys on the green mountains. When the boat comes to shoal, visitors can get off the boat to pick some Three Gorges Stones. On some high mountain cliffs, visitors can see the magic suspending coffins in the caves. On the bank cliffs, visitors also can see the ancient plank road relics.
