Local Specialties of Zigui County – Tea

Zigui County is pretty fit for the growth of tea trees since it is located in sub-tropical climate zone and has a warm climate with abundant sunshine and moderate rainfalls. It has a long history of tea cultivation. Its plant area of tea trees reached 1500 hectares and it had a tea production of 525 tons in 1998.

Zigui County has famous Shuangshan Tea Plantation and Zhengcun Plantation. Its complete facilities and strong technology strength laid solid foundation for the research of high-quality teas. The tea named Yupinsi won the Gould Award in the Second Agricultural Fair of China. Yupinsi was also in the line of Brand-name Products of China.

Local Specialties of Zigui County – Citrus

Zigui County is located at the bank of Xiling Gorge. It has a long history of citrus cultivation. Early in more than 2000 years ago, Qu Yuan (a great patriotic poet of Warring Stats Period) had written a famous work named Ode to the Citrus. Zigui was named as "County of Navel Oranges" in 1995 since it is rich in navel oranges.

The citrus in Zigui County is of excellent quality since they were cultivated in the river valley which has a unique climate and beautiful landscape of Three Gorges. The navel orange here is characterized by large, sweet, juicy and seedless. Various species of navel oranges enjoy high reputation at home. They were sell well all over the county and exported Southeast Asia.

Zigui County has a long history of chestnut cultivation. The chestnut here tastes sweet and glutinous. It could be stored for a long time and enjoys a good reputation.

The government of Zigui County devoted great efforts to promote the industrialization of chestnut since 1992. So far there are more than 40 villages in the county specialized in the cultivation of chestnut. The plant area of chestnut reached 5000 hectares and produced more than 1 million kilograms of chestnuts in 1998. Chestnut cultivation has been an important pillar industry for the economic development of Zigui County.
