Porcelains of Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen is a known as "the capital of porcelain" and it is one of the historical and cultural interests the State Council announced in the first batch. It is an autonomous region of Jiangxi province. It is located in the north-east of Jiangxi province, and next to Zhejiang province and Anhui province. It covers an area of 5248 square kilometers and has a population of 1.423 million.

Jingdezhen - Climate and Natural Resources

Jingdezhen has a sub-tropical monsoon climate and four distinctive seasons. It has abundant sunshine, rainfall and long frost-free period throughout the year. It is fit for the growing of all kinds of plants and crops. It is rich in natural resources and the following mineral resources are among the best of the province: porcelain clay, alluvial gold, coal, mangan, marble, travertine, and sepiolite. And the porcelain clay there has a good quality and quantity. There are the following forest resources: fir, Pinus massoniana, bamboo, oil tea, lacquer, and sumac. It is also rich in wild plants and medical materials, such as litsea cubeba, actinidia, acorns and honeysuckle.

Jingdezhen - History of Porcelain Manufacture

The porcelain melt industry here was started from Xinping in Han Dynasty. Jingdezhen has porcelain making history of more than 1700 years. In the Jingde Period of Emperor Songzhenzong in Northern Song Dynasty (1004-1007), the porcelains made here was appreciated by the Emperor, and wrote a "made in Jingde Period" in the bottom of the porcelains. Since then it is called Jingdezhen. After a long-term development, the Jingdezhen Porcelain has formed its own special features- white like jade, bright as a mirror, thin as a paper, sound like a chime.

Jingdezhen - Base of Marketable Grain, Tea, Forestry and Sericulture

Jingdezhen is the main base of marketable grain, tea, forestry and sericulture of Jiangxi province. It is rich in rice, soybeans, wheat, peanut, cotton, rape seed, sesame, tea and mushrooms.

In recent years, Jingdezhen keeps making full use of its long history of porcelain and great quantity of scenic spots, its tourism industry develops quickly.
