Dragon Spine Stone

Dragon Spine Stone is a 200 meters long, 10 meters wide sandstone beam in the middle of Yangtze River, in front of Yunyang County. Before the construction of Three Gorges Dam, each winter and spring dry season Dragon Spine Stone would out of the water. Generally speaking, the stone is in the middle of the river forming two island. But when the water level is very low, the two islands become one resembling a white dragon in Yangtze River, hence the name Dragon Spine Stone, also known as Latent Dragon Stone.

According to the county annals, every spring there were poem feasts on the Dragon Spine Stone which were very lively. Thus the ancient poetry inscriptions are extremely rich. The inscriptions of each generation are more than 170 since North Song Dynasty (1088), including 68 hydrological stone inscriptions of 53 dry season years. You can see seal character, official script, regular script and cursive hand on the Dragon Spine Stone. Yunyang Dragon Spine Stone and Fuling White Crane Ridge are the same, although in different place.
