Da Jiu Lake – Location

Da Jiu Lake (Big Nine Lakes) is located at the border of Chongqing City and Hubei Province. It is a wetland and an intermountain basin. It covers an area of 36 square meters with a length of about 15 kilometers and a width of about 3 kilometers. It is 1700 meters above sea level. There is a plain about 17 square meters surrounded by mountains. It is very rare to see a plain among mountains. Da Jiu Lake is praised as Plain among Mountains and was called Hulun Buir (a big prairie in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region) of Hubei Province.

Da Jiu Lake – Formation and Name Origin

Nine Lakes Plain is surrounded by high mountains, among which the highest mountain is 2800 meters above sea level. It plays as a natural screen. There are nine big ridges in the west and east. The ridges are covered with dense forests and looked pretty magnificent. There are nine streams flow through the ridges like nine jade belts flowing in the sky. There are nine lakes on the plain by chance. The Lesser Nine Lakes in the other side of the mountain covers an area of about 333 hectares. A stream links nine small lakes.

Da Jiu Lake – A Transfer Station

Da Jiu Lake connects Chongqing in the west, connects Shaanxi Province in the north and connects Badong County in the south. It is a transfer station which connects Chongqing, Shaanxi Province and Hubei Province.

Da Jiu Lake – Natural Resources and Rare Animals

Da Jiu Lake is a base of timber resources and also a natural pasture. There are rare animals: golden monkey and Chinese tiger. Da Jiu Lake has beautiful landscapes. It is said that there are a lot of historical sites here.
