Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen - Brief Introduction
Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen is the mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen – the founding father of Republic of China and also a pioneer of China's democratic revolution. It is located at the southern foot of Zijin Mountain in eastern suburb of Nanjing City in Jiangsu Province. It is in the east of Xiao Mausoleum of Ming Dynasty and in the west of Linggu Temple. It is one of the key cultural units under national protection.
Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen - Architectures
Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was started to build in January 1926 and been completed in 1931. Its main architecture was finished in 1929. On May 28, 1929, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's coffin was transferred to Nanjing from Beijing. It covers an area of about 8 square kilometers. It is made up of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's mausoleum and its subsidiary memorial architecture complex. There are Memorial Archway, Tomb Passage, Mausoleum Gate, Tablet Pavilion, Tomb and Memorial Hall. These buildings stand in a line and reflect a traditional Chinese architectural style. Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Scenic Area was called Jinling Mountain in ancient times. There are three peaks stand in a line from east to west. There are a series of memorial buildings except the main architectures. Such as Yongmu Cottage (Admiring Cottage which was built for Dr. Sun Yat-sen's families to memorize him), Fengan Memorial Hall (it collected the souvenirs of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's funeral), Guanghua Pavilion, Xingjian Pavilion and Sutras Tower.

Take a bird-view of Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, you would find that it looks like Freedom Bell. The Bronze Statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen could be looked as the steepal of the bell, the Semilunar Square could be looked as the roof arc of the bell, and the hemispherical dome roof at he top of the tomb could be looked as the round bell pendulum which has a meaning of "Arouse the people to build Republic of China". Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was praised as the first mausoleum in modern architecture history of China.
