Huangshan Mountain – Brief Introduction
Huangshan Mountain is located in Huangshan City of Anhui Province. It is noted as the most grotesque mountain in the world. As a sacred place of Taoism, Huangshan Mountain has a lot of cultural relics. It is said that Emperor Xuanyuan once practiced alchemy here. Xu Xiake (a famous geographer and traveler in Ming Dynasty) visited Huangshan Mountain two times and praised Huangshan Mountain as the most attractive mountain in the world. Li Bai and some other famous poets also left magnificent poetries here.
Huangshan Mountain stands in the line of Most Beautiful and Amazing Ten Mountains of China. It is a noted summer resort and a State-class scenic spot. It was listed as one of the top ten scenic spots of China in 1985. It was listed on the World Cultural and Natural Heritage by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in December 1990.
Huangshan Mountain – Ecotope
Huangshan Mountain has a complicated natural environmental conditions and balanced ecosystem. The plants here have a distinctive vertical distribution. The forest coverage here is 56% and the vegetation coverage reaches 83%. There are 1452 wild plants, among which the metasequoia is a national protected plant in the first class. There are also 4 wild plants are national protected plant in the second class, 8 wild plants are national protected plant in the third class and 10 endangered species. There are 28 species of plants were firstly discovered in Huangshan Mountain or named after Huangshan Mountain. There are more than 300 species of animals on Huangshan Mountain, among which there are 14 species of wild animals under national protection.
Huangshan Mountain – Plant Resource
Huangshan Mountain has rich plant resources since it has an advantageous natural environment. There are more than 700 species of plants. The total number of species of plants would reach to 1000 if the introduced species of plants were taken into account. Among which about 100 species of plants have high economic value. There are a lot of rare plants under the state key protection, such as Henry Emmenopterys, Toona Ciliata, and Pterocarpus Indicus. The pines mostly distributed in Qimen, Yi County, Xi County and Huangshan District. The Timber volume of Huangshan Mountain is about 24 million square meters. The annual production of tea is about 25000 tons. Huangshan Mountain is an important origin of timbers in Eastern China and also a famous origin of tea.
Huangshan Mountain – Animal Resources
There are more than 200 species of animals at Huangshan Mountain, among which there are more than 20 species of animals under national protection, including golden monkeys, veverra, bear, agkistroden, stump-tailed macaque, rhesus macaque, masked palm civet, reeves pheasant and leiothrix.
