Dachang Ancient Town

Dachang Ancient Town is situated 10 kilometers to the north of the Dicuixia in the Lesser Three Gorges Area (an AAAAA-class scenic spot) of Wushan County. This town was raised in Jin Dynasty. It has a history of 1700 years and is the only intact ancient city in the Three Gorges Area. It covers an area of 10 hectares, and it is a small ancient city where your sound can be heard in every corner of the town and a light can kindle the entire town. The main street is about 350 meters from east to west and 200 meters from north to south.

Dachang Ancient Town - Dongba Relic

It is located 200 meters to the east of the town, 100 meters to the south of the Daning River and 80 meters to the east of the Yangxi River. It is situated in the triangle platform where the two rivers meet. It is 60 meters from the east to the west, and 50 meters from the south to the north. The cultural layer here is about 0.2-0.6 meter thick and about 0.5-1 meter from the under of the Earth. It mainly collected coarse gray potsherd inscribed with Jomon. The cultural layer is destroyed seriously by kiln baking.

Dachang Ancient Town - Yangxi River Relic

It is situated in the triangle platform where the Yangxi River and the Shijia River meet. The cultural layer here is 200 meters long, 40 meters wide from the east to the west, 1.5 meters thick and about 0.2-1 meter under the surface of the Earth. It mainly collected coarse gray potsherd inscribed with Jomon.

Dachang Ancient Town - Shuangyantang Relic

The West Dam of Dachang - Lijiatan Dam is a ruin famous for its remains of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. The exploration area here amount to 10 thousand square meters and excavated 1125 square meters during 1997-1998. It collected pots, tubs, bowls and shells. The Shuangyantang Relic was elected one of the ten archeological discoveries of China in 1998.

Dachang Ancient Town - Seven Miles Relic

It is situated in the platform of Longxing Village to the east of the Daning River. The cultural layer is 70 meters from the west to the east, 100 meters long, 1.2 meters thick and is about 1-1.5 meters under the surface of the Earth. The soil here is tawny. It collected coarse red potsherd, coarse brown potsherd, and a tiny amount of brasses pieces. It also collected pointed vessels, serrated edge, and stone axes. Evidences show that it is a settlement of the gens in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties.

Dachang Ancient Town - Liujiaba Relic

It is situated in the northeastern platform of the Longxi Village where the Daning River and the Changxi River. The cultural layer is 120 meters from the east to the west, 40 meters wide, and 0.5-1 meter thick. It collected coarse red potsherd, and coarse gray potsherd. The ruin here is in good condition.

Except for the above ruins of Shang and Zhou Dynasties, there are Xiaozixi Relic, Hanjiaba Relic, and Tujiaba Relic. All these relics are alongside the Daning River.

It is also named Taichang Relics and Yongchang Relics. The Dachang County Town Relics during the Hongwu Emperor period of Ming Danysty is the Dachang Ancient Town Relics.
